Torfinn Iversen (b. 1985, Sortland, Norway) is a director and screenwriter whose work is rooted in personal experiences from growing up in a small coastal town in Northern Norway. At the age of 11, a Hi8 camera given to him sparked his passion for storytelling, allowing him to observe his surroundings with distance, humour, and empathy.
Iversen holds a BA in Visual Culture (Film & Television) from Lillehammer University College, including a semester at Hawaii Pacific University, and graduated from Nordland College of Art and Film in 2009. He attended the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2009, and his short film Levi’s Horse was selected for the Berlinale Generation section in 2012.
His debut feature Oskar’s America premiered in Berlinale Generation 2017 after receiving the inaugural Eurimages Co-production Development Award. His short films have screened widely: Bog Hole (Amanda-nominated), and The Kicksled Choir, which won First Prize at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, screened at Tribeca, and was shortlisted as one of ten films for the 93rd Academy Awards.
Iversen continues to explore themes of family, belonging, and childhood resilience. His newest short, The Corkscrew(2026), shot on 35mm, and his upcoming feature Uncle Egg draw directly from his own upbringing. Uncle Egg has received major funding from the Norwegian Film Institute and is set for theatrical release in 2027.
