Elle Márjá Eira

Elle Márjá Eira is a Sámi Indigenous artist with a rich portfolio, showcasing her talents in writing, directing and composing. Rooted in Sámi traditions, her work moves fluidly between joik, art, contemporary music, film, and theatre and opera.

Eira contributed to the film score and composed joiks for The 12th Man (2017), Harald Zwart’s acclaimed film about Norwegian resistance hero Jan Baalsrud. In 2019, she composed the music for the theatre production Kvinnerommet (The Women’s Room).

In addition to her musical work, Eira has established herself as a director. She directed episode 7 of the drama series Makta (Power Play), which premiered on NRK in October 2024.

Eira is also a member of the band Snoweye, alongside Lucy Parnell and John Paul Jones, renowned for his work with Led Zeppelin and Them Crooked Vultures.

MUSIC
Eira’ s work blends modern and traditional joik with contemporary expression and cinematic soundscapes with elements of pop and rock. She is the winner of Arctic Talent, Northern Norway’s largest music award, and a recipient of GramArt.
Elle Márjá has performed on international stages and has composed music for film and television, including collaborations with acclaimed composer Christophe Beck.
She has composed music for the films Ealát, Stolen, Makta, Iđitsilba, and others, in collaboration with other composers. Produced music for the film series Hyundai Commission: Máret Ánne Sara for her 2025 Tate Modern exhibition, in collaboration with Mind the Film and Seb Gainsborough
